“Harry Potter is symmetrical.”

Not just symmetrical - this is ring composition, favoured by Homer and other good writers. The 4th book is at the centre of the ring.
JK Rowling knows her beans.

Reblogging because I like that phrase a lot.

i love everything about this post

I love how dementors are synonymous to Umbridge. I agree with this completely.

This… is really amazing. I-… wow.

The technical term for this is a chiasm.  Props to JK for using a great old storytelling technique.

#I FEEL LIKE THIS MAN HAS HAD WAY TOO MANY ENCOUNTERS WHERE THAT WASN’T A GUN

HE THINKS OF DICK IN THE MOST RANDOM SITUATIONS

o m g

Okay, so I can’t look at this .gifset without thinking about defilerwyrm’s meta from yesterday comparing Dean Smith to Dean Winchester.  Specifically, the section about Dean being wary of male attention in both universes and the way he responds to sexual threats.

And now I’m thinking about Dean growing up and getting hit on far too often by scary dudes in seedy bars.  Dudes who sometimes just invited themselves into his personal space (and no doubt got a knee in the balls for their trouble, but still).  Which means if Dean occasionally felt attracted toward men, chances are good he’d suppress and distrust the feeling.  And then you throw the implications of Hell into the mix, and… I mean, no wonder it’s taken him so damn long to start second-guessing his sexuality.

Let’s extrapolate a bit.  Dean knows how to turn men down or bruise their egos.  We’ve seen him do it before, usually as a sarcastic quip or in response to a threat.  He knows how to feel disgust or annoyance toward men’s advances.

He doesn’t know how to feel when the situation is positive. Maybe THAT’S why Aaron threw him off so much.  A guy was hitting on him, but he was unassuming, nonthreatening, well-dressed, friendly, kind of cute in a dorky way, in a brightly-lit and welcoming venue, and said Dean was “interesting” and he thought they had “eye-magic” rather than “I want your hot bod” (which is probably 99% of the attention he gets from men).

So now all I can think when I see the above is something like: “oh my poor objectified, confused baby.”
